From the Ground Up: Sustainability on Rhinefarm + Virtual Tasting

Organic, biodynamic, dry farming…what does it all mean? And does it really matter?

Join us for a virtual discussion Thursday, June 24 at 5pm PT about sustainability and regenerative farming practices on Rhinefarm and why they matter to the ecosystem and the wine you drink, all while tasting new releases of our iconic estate wines. We’ll get down and dirty, to the root of the matters, and geek out on science, technology, and winemaking; and laugh till we can’t anymore with stories from the Bundschus. Topics will include water and the current drought; pest management without pesticides; and how goats, cattle, birds and more play a big role in our Rhinefarm ecosystem. There may even be a guest appearance by our new baby lambs.

This all-star GunBun roundtable will include Jeff Bundschu, 6th generation vintner and President of Gundlach Bundschu; Meghan Siemers, Sustainability Systems Manager; Joe Uhr, Winemaker; and perhaps a cameo from another Bundschu family member. In addition to good wine and great company, there will be music, laughter and a surprise or two. Jeff Bundschu
Jeff is a sixth-generation vintner in Sonoma, California who built his career by combining wine, family heritage, experience, and creativity. He grew up on the family’s historic Rhinefarm property, where he learned the business working in all facets of the vineyard and winery. In 2002, he became President of his family’s estate, Gundlach Bundschu, and strategically repositioned the brand to the ultra-premium category, while building upon the family’s hallmark warmth and approachability. Inspired by his love of music, Jeff launched Huichica Music Festival, hosted annually at Gundlach Bundschu’s winery and other locations across the US, now celebrating its twelfth year. Jeff was named one of ‘Wines Most Inspiring People in 2021’ by Wine Industry Network.


Joe Uhr
Joe Uhr is a native of Sonoma County who tried to get away, but the allure of crafting grapes into wine called him back. For the past 14 years, he has worked for such esteemed producers as Duckhorn Vineyards, Kenwood, Bonny Doon, and now, Bundschu Company. He strives to strike the right balance between tradition and innovation. Never afraid to embrace new winemaking techniques while also drawing on the Old World for inspiration and guidance. “My number one rule is to always let the vineyard and the vintage be the voice of the wine, not the Winemaker.” –Joe Uhr


Meghan Siemers
Sustainability Systems Manager
Midwestern grown, and Southeastern educated, Meghan joined Bundschu Company in 2020 for a fresh perspective on sustainability and farming. After graduating with her Masters in Global Sustainability and Climate Change, Meghan promptly shipped out West to support Bundschu Company’s agricultural endeavors amid shifting industry trends due to environmental concerns. Since then, Meghan has focused on positioning our vineyards and winery for further long-term success and resiliency through principles of regenerative agriculture and sustainable technologies. Animal-obsessed and nature-driven, you’ll likely find Meghan out in the vines with a furry friend or two.
