Cool Climate Cabernet Virtual Tasting

August 19 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

On Thursday, August 19 at 5pm PT join us for a virtual discussion about Cabernet Sauvignon and its long, illustrious history on Rhinefarm. Dating back to the early 1970s with our first vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon produced in 1974, to being the only domestic winery in the 80’s to be distributed by the famous Chateau & Estates Portfolio (owned at the time by the Seagram Family who at the time were the largest importers of Bordeaux and imported all of the First Growth Bordeaux’s). Fast forward 20 years, and our Cabernet’s still consistently earn scores in the 90 and glowing reviews from critics.

So what is it that makes our Cabs so elegant, expressive and ageable? Join us for a deep dive into the world of Gundlach Bundschu cool climate Cabernet Sauvignon with Jeff Bundschu, Jim Bundschu, and Keith Emerson, while tasting our 2019 Mountain Cuvee (93 pts), 2018 Sonoma Valley Cabernet (91 pts), and 2016 Vintage Reserve (92+ pts). All three wines recently received 90+ scores and praises from Jeb Dunnuck. We can’t wait to share them with you while delving into the “why” and “how’ of their crafting.

Purchase your wine tasting set by August 9 to receive your shipment in time to taste along. You’re also welcome to open up one of your favorite bottle of GunBun wines and join the discussion without the tasting set!

A man with a hat labeled 1858
Jeff Bundschu
Jeff is sixth-generation vintner in Sonoma, California who built is career by combining wine, family heritage, experience and creativity. He grew up on the family’s historic Rhinefarm property, where he learned the business working in all facets of the vineyard and winery. In 2002, he became President of his family’s estate, Gundlach Bundschu, and strategically repositioned the brand to the ultra-premium category, while building upon the family’s hallmark warmth and approachability. Inspired by his love of music, Jeff launched Huichica Music Festival, hosted annually at Gundlach Bundschu’s winery and other locations across the US, now celebrating its twelfth year. Jeff was named one of ‘Wines Most Inspiring People in 2021’ by Wine Industry Network.

Jim Bundschu
Vicar of Vineburg
Jim Bundschu is the quintessential down-to-earth farmer, completely devoted to the Sonoma County vineyard land cultivated by four generations before him. Growing up on Gundlach Bundschu Winery’s Rhinefarm, he was so mesmerized by his walk through the vineyards on his way to school that he never doubted he would carry on his family’s tradition. Known as the Resurrector of the family business by convincing his father in the late 1960s to re-establish wines under the Gundlach Bundschu label, essentially establishing the “modern era” of Gundlach Bundschu prior to passing the torch to his son Jeff. Today, you can find him tending to his olive trees on Rhinefarm with his trusty companion, Ruby in the bed of his truck. While he may have traded one fruit for another, he still keeps a watchful eye on the sixth generation.

Keith Emerson
Executive Winemaker
Keith has been leading the winemaking team at Gundlach Bundschu for 12+ years, bringing his expertise in crafting Bordeaux-style wines to Rhinefarm. His goal as a winemaker is to tell the story of each vineyard site. With this goal in mind, he has led our team to produce numerous 90+ point wines, from our everyday table wines to ultra-premium Bundschu Family Cabernet.
